About ScanBench

A small test desk that reviews iCarsoft scan tools by plugging them into real cars.

ScanBench is written by The ScanBench Test Desk. We review iCarsoft diagnostic tools: the large bi-directional tablets built for independent shops, the make-specific scanners that owners of one car family buy, the DIY readers that live in a glovebox, and the specialty tools for motorcycles, tyres and trucks.

We focus on one maker on purpose. iCarsoft sells a long list of models whose names differ by a letter or two, and the differences that matter (which modules a tool can reach, which resets it runs, whether it can command a part to move) are hard to read from a product page. Covering one catalogue lets us compare like with like and say plainly which model fits which car.

Who it is for

Home mechanics who want to know why a warning light is on before they pay for a diagnosis, owners of German, European, American and Asian cars who want dealer-style depth on their own make, and small shops choosing a tablet they will use every day.

How the site is funded

Some links to makers' sites may earn us a commission when you buy. That never changes a score or a verdict: the score comes from our bench notes, written before any link is added. We do not accept payment for reviews or for placement in the rankings.

Read how we test, or get in touch if a review is wrong about your car.
